There are new rules for drone operators.

The rules, which are effective immediately, will mean recreational users will face a fine of up to $3,000 if drones are caught flying:

– Higher than 90 metres,
– Within 75 metres of buildings, vehicles or people.
– At night.
– Within nine kilometres of somewhere aircraft take off or land.
– Without contact information marked on the drone itself.
– Over forest fires, emergency response scenes or controlled airspace.

Full details are available here.

Visit https://www.nrc-cnrc.gc.ca/eng/solutions/collaborative/civuas/uav_site_selection_tool.html to see the no-fly zones.

Owners must also clearly mark their drones with contact information.

The restrictions apply to drones weighting more than 250g up to 35kg. Any user who fails to comply with the new flying restrictions would face fines of up to $3,000.

RCMP & police will be working with Transport Canada inspectors to enforce the new rules.
